Full Synopsis

High school senior Mary Faith Rapple (Clara Bryant, Once in a Lifetime) is not your typical teenager. As if being a national merit scholar, teaching a high school equivalency course, and looking after her widower father was not enough to keep her busy, she has just found out that she’s pregnant. Her life is about to change forever in this moving story about finding love, faith and friendship during hard times in the small town of Due East.

Just as quickly as Mary Faith falls in love with Michael (Jesse Moss, Sole Survivor), the father of her child, he is tragically taken away from her in an accident. As strong as her feelings are to have the baby and keep her loved one’s memory alive, she fears that the baby will destroy her dream of going away to college.

While the adults in Mary Faith's life urge her to secretly flee to Atlanta for an abortion, she contemplates running away to a home for unwed mothers so she can raise her baby while attending college. Scared and alone, Mary Faith refuses to name the father, and her own father, Jesse (Oscar nominee Robert Forster, Rear Window), suspects her married colleague, Stephen Dugan (Kavan Smith, The Titanic). To complicate matters further, when Jesse drops in to discuss the situation with Stephen's mother, Nell (Golden Globe winner Cybill Shepherd, Moonlighting), he unexpectedly falls in love with her.

Although Mary Faith has brought them together, she is not thrilled with Jesse and Nell's romantic relationship. Feeling even more abandoned, she seeks comfort and support from a new friend, Becky (Kate Capshaw, A Girl Thing), who is struggling with debilitating personal issues of her own.

Despite her difficulties, Mary Faith refuses to abandon her dreams. She writes her local newspaper and pleads her case in order to protect the scholarship she rightfully deserves. As Mary Faith makes her life-changing decision, she finds unexpected support and compassion from the town that once rejected her, and inspires them in the process.

Based on the critically acclaimed novels by Valerie Sayers, Due East is a story about having faith in the ones you love and having the courage to make difficult decisions.
