Full Synopsis
Embark on an epic journey of ruthless ambition, elusive love, and tragic misadventure, based on the award-winning sea trilogy by Nobel Laureate William Golding (Lord of the Flies).
At the dawn of the 19th century, Edmund Talbot (Benedict Cumberbatch, Tipping the Velvet), a young, ambitious, and possessive young British aristocrat, takes passage for Australia where he is to be an official in the colonial government. Joined by fellow passengers from diverse backgrounds, this microcosm of society sets out on the journey of a lifetime in a beleaguered Royal Navy man-o-war, now converted to transporting cargo and passengers on the treacherous voyage. But when emotions roil as restlessly as the ocean, Talbot finds himself emotionally, violently, and inevitably involved in the lives of the men, women, passengers, and crew who are seeking a new life on the far side of the world.
As social barriers break down, as love, rage, and jealousy ignite, and as the worst and best of human nature take hold, Talbot becomes more and more influenced by the disparate lives around him—and inspired in ways he never imagined. Then, a chance encounter with another ship yields even more surprises—especially in the unforgettable form of Marion (Joanna Page, Love Actually), a young woman whose brief encounter with Talbot will change the meaning of his voyage, the course of his life, and forever challenge him on his epic adventure to the ends of the earth.
A stunning production that also features actors Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) and Jared Harris (Igby Goes Down), To the Ends of the Earth is a gripping, blockbuster miniseries event.
